I am having a problem with what looks like some kind of stem rot on my geraniums, ivy geraniums, tuberous and rex begonias, petunias and several other species. Some have been repotted and some are in their original containers. All are only a few months old. Is it a bad idea to use manure as part of my potting mix? Help! Iam losing a lot of beautiful plants that were once healthy flourishing plants. Thank you. |
Hal, I don't think the manure is a bad idea. If you keep the soil and stems very moist rots will often become a problem. Allow the plants to dry out quite a bit between waterings. There are a few fungicides that you can use to drench the plant stems and soil to fight rots. Your local Home Depot garden center can direct you to one they carry. Look for the ingredients benomyl or metalaxyl. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
