The Q&A Archives: When should we spread weed killer on a recently re-seeded yard?

Question: We moved into our newly built home last year in July. The builder seeded the back yard at that time & we re-seeded in early May & late June of this year. The grass is coming up nicely but so are the weeds. When is it safe to spread weed killer without damaging the fragile new grass?

Answer: You need to wait until the lawn is well established, this takes several months so you are looking at the fall as the earliest. Read and carefully follow all of the label directions on any product you are considering using.
