The Q&A Archives: New Flower Bed

Question: I just moved into a new house and it has a flower bed but nothing will grow in it. What can I do?

Answer: You can start by amending the soil with some organic matter (compost, manure, shredded leaves, etc.) Digging organic matter into the bed will enrich the soil, loosen it, and help it drain well. Then, when you choose plants, be sure they will adapt the the amount of sun or shade in your flower bed. All the information you need will be on the plant label. Be sure to water your plants as often as necessary to keep the soil moist but not soggy wet. Best wishes with your new flower bed.
