We're looking to plant some trees in our backyard. It is a western exposure (sun from noon till dusk). We want some shade trees as well as decorative flowering ones. We also need suggestions for hiding a fence. Unfortunately, we have ALOT of shale approx. 1 ft. underground. Any suggestions? |
I can think of only six species which are adaptable to growing where there's shale: Acer platanoid (Norway maple), Tilia cordata (linden) , Malus (crabapple), Fraxinus (ash), Sorbus (mountain ash), and Gleditsia (honeylocust). I think any or all will grow well in your gardening region. |
