| I LIVE IN CENTRAL FL. AND WE HAVE SEVERAL LARGE POTS OUT FRONT AND ALSO A PLACE TO HANG SOME SMALLER POTS ON A BACK FENCE WITH A WEST EXPOSURE. THE LARGE POTS ARE WITH AN EASTERN EXPOSURE. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT PLANTS WILL DO WELL IN POTS IN FLORIDA. WHAT WILL BE PRETTY AND COLORFUL AND PRACTICAL AT THE SAME TIME? |
| Ginny, First of all remember that in a warm climate like yours containers should be a little larger to allow for more soil volume to hold moisture. That way you won't be watering twice daily trying to keep them going. There are many plants that will do well in containers with some tolerant of heat and others better suited to cold conditions. Also consider using plants for foliage. I like to use Purple Heart which is very heat tolerant and trails over the sides of the container. It likes part day shade but tolerates sun too. The trailing zinnias (narrow leaf zinnia), work well in summer as does fan flower (Scaevola). Blackfoot daisy is good if you can avoid soggy soil conditions in the container.
