| Begin mowing at 4 to 4 and a half inches, set the blade high at 3 inches. Mow often so you never remove more than one third the lawn height at a time. If you used a starter fertilizer you will not need to fertilize again for several months. You never want to overfertilize as this can "burn" the lawn and encourages overly lush growth that is more prone to pests and diseases.
