| Yellow Nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) is a tough one to have in your lawn. It favors areas that have poor drainage, so the most reliable way to make it feel unwelcome is to improve the soil drainage. This may involve installing tiles, which can be a worthwhile commitment. At the very least, incorporating compost or other organic matter will lighten the soil texture and allow water to percolate through. Mowing the lawn high (2-1/2" - 3") will create enough shade to discourage most broadleafed weeds, and nutsedge as well. Herbicides will slow it down, but you'll need repeated applications to kill the weeds for good. |
