The Q&A Archives: indoor philidendrum leaves are turning yellow and falling off

Question: what is causing the leaves to fall off and turn yellow do i need to replant in pots they are about six years in this pot

Answer: Edith,

Usually that is due to a root problem. Dry soil for a period of time can do this as can soggy wet soil (poor drainage). Check the soil moisture by feeling the soil a few inches below the surface and water accordingly to maintain moderate moisture. Also try fertilizing the plant with a solution of Miracle Gro or similar product. Finally, make sure the plant is in adequate light. A recent move to another room could be the cause of its changed performance. After 6 year I feel that it does most likely need to be repotted into the next largest size of container.
