The Q&A Archives: Which are the best cares for a Kentia Palm

Question: Thank you, I'll do all about you said my dracaena. Now i need to know which are the best cares for a Kentia palm? water usage on summer and winter times. Fertilize, what kind of plant food is good for it? Do they need tray pebbles? thanks again.

Answer: Kentia Palm, also known as Paradise Palm, is a fast-growing palm that thrives in low light conditions. During the winter months, keep the soil only slightly moist. In the summer, water more frequently, and make sure there are adequate drainage holes in the container; palms don't like wet feet. Avoid cold drafts, and mist the leaves occasionally to overcome the effects of dry, heated air during the winter months. Your Kentia will be happiest in average household temperatures during the day, and about 60F degrees at night. You can fertilize every 3-4 weeks during periods of growth (April through September) with a half-strength dilution of liquid houseplant fertilizer such as Peter's or Miracle Gro. Other than the above, your palm is highly adaptable and should be attractive for many years.
