Sweetness in lemons has to do with a lower acidity content. Two of those considered less acidic than the standard commercially grown lemons are 'Improved Meyer' and 'Ponderosa'. The other lemon could be Eureka or Lisbon. Both are grown extensively in your gardening region. A dwarf Nagami Kumquat will adapt to growing in a container. It has olive size and shape, bright orange fruit which ripen in the spring.
