We have a small backyard and want to plant a couple of trees. Which trees are good for small backyards (about 800 sq ft)? We want to plant next to the fence and we'd like to find a tree that sheds it's leaves all at once.

One of the more attractive trees that will grow in your region is Crape Myrtle. It's well-behaved, stays manageable, and doesn't need a lot of care or pruning. The spring bloom is spectacular! Acacia is another spring bloomer. A final consideration might be Albizia, the Silk Tree. It is gorgeous when in bloom and has almost feathery foliage. It does drop flowers, seed capsules and leaves, though, so unless you detest litter on the ground, it might be a good tree for your small backyard. Each of these trees grows best in full sunshine.
