Sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) is tropical plant; it requires full sun and rich, moist soil. You have a few options. You could plant the sugar cane outdoors, then, come fall, take some cuttings to bring indoors to overwinter. Or, you could try planting it in a large pot, then sinking the pot into the garden. Come fall, you can pull the entire pot up and bring it indoors until next spring.
