| Margie, Cut away the lowest limbs a few at a time, trimming every 6 months or so. It is best to remove them before they get to be an inch in diameter but you can do it after that if you need to. Keep trimming a few up at a time until the tree trunk is as high as you want the first branches to grow. This will build the tree form about as quickly and strong as you can. Thanks for the question.
