| Hi, First yr. of planting wax beans and snow peas. The wax beans themselves have a rustic color to them and the snow peas leaves are turning brown and slowing going up the plant. I planted them by each other. I didnt know if the wax have a disease and what? also if the snow peas have a disease? Thanks Janene |
| Snow peas or sugar peas have edible flat pods and very small seeds. They should be picked when very young, just as the seeds start to form. If not picked at this stage, they can be shelled and eaten as garden peas, but are more starchy and not as sweet. Snow peas are a cool season vegetable and when temperatures get hot, you'll want to harvest your peas and pull up the vines. You can plant again in late August and you should be able to harvest in the fall. Wax beans should be harvested when the pods are full size, but before you can see the beans bulging through the pods. If they're already bulging, they are over-mature but you can leave them on the plant until they dry and then save and replant the seeds next spring. Beans are a warm season crop and you should be able to harvest throughout the summer. Best wishes with your peas and beans! |
