I have a gopher-riddled lot that I am attempting to landscape. What plants are the best to thwart the little rotters? I've planted rosemary and thyme without incident, but would like to have a larger inventory than just those. |
There are no proven gopher repellant plants, nor is there a list of plants gophers avoid. They aren't really attacking your plants on purpose, they just happen to destroy the root systems while digging their tunnels in search of insects. There's really no way to completely control gophers, but you can try trapping them. Some plants that I've had success with include Aegopodium; Carex; Convallaria; Epimedium; Eupatorium; Euphorbia; Euonymus; Gaultheria; Geranium; Hellebore; Heuchera; Hedera; Hypericum; Lamiastrum; Lamium; Liriope; Pachysandra; Salvia and Vinca. So far, they've remained healthy and happy in my garden - hope they do the same for you. Best wishes with your flower bed! |
