I live near the beach, have sandy soil, and my yard gets only partial, mostly filtered sunlight. I love big juicy tomatoes. What varieties can you suggest? |
Your conditions are less than ideal for big, juicy tomatoes, so you might have to settle for medium-sized juicy tomatoes. Plant your seeds in the garden site that gets the most sunshine, and try one or all of these short-season varieties: Burpee's 'Northern Exposure', or 'Big Beef'. (Order toll-free at (800) 888-1447) Or, try these: 'Oregon Spring', 'Kootenai' or 'Siletz' from Territorial Seed Company, P. O. Box 157, Cttage Grove, OR 97424-0061 Phone (541) 942-9547. These varieties are especially bred for short-season areas with cooler temperatures. They still require full sun, but you may be able to coax them into producing with less sunshine. Good luck! |
