The Q&A Archives: Calla Lily

Question: Last year my calla lilies had leaves but no flowers. When I lifted the bulbs in the late fall they were huge. What can I do this year so I will get flowers. Do I need to separate the bulbs? Diane Leib Orland Park, IL

Answer: Your calla lilies needed a year to build up reserves. My guess is that they will flower this next year since you say the bulbs were huge. Remember, the bigger the bulb, the more likely that there will be enough energy to produce flowers..
