If the tomatoes have already begun to turn color, you can pick them and let them finish ripening in safety on the kitchen counter. (Do not refrigerate, do not place on a sunny window sill, just keep them in a single layer at room temperature.) Sometimes birds and other animals will peck or dig into tomatoes to get water. You might try setting out clean water in a shallow pan at a little distance from the garden. Or, you could try netting the tomato plants. I hope this helps.
