The Q&A Archives: hot spot in lawn

Question: I have bermuda grass in my lawn...How can I repair a 4x4ft section that turns brown for most of the summer months?

Answer: I'd first check to make sure the sprinklers are working well, and then dig the section to make sure there are no insect populations. Once you've ruled out those two possibilities, level the soil and cut small (2" square) pieces of healthy grass from elsewhere in your lawn and plant them in the bare area. You won't notice the missing grass in your lawn and the newly plugged section should grow quickly to cover the bare spot.
