The most popular plants are those with a citrusy smell when the leaves are crushed, such as lemon geranium. When the leaves are brushed or crushed they give off a scent. Several other plants contain this oil too. Technically they do repel mosquitoes from the plant itself. However, a few plants around the patio will not keep mosquitoes off you and your garden party guests! Outdoor foggers work temporarily or you might use an insect repellant that contains DEET (such as OFF!).
