Is it true that laying bark mulch in your perennial gardens will rob your soil of nutrients? I've been putting in fresh layers every year! Thanks! Sincerely, Mrs. Pattie McIntyre |
Bark mulch won't rob your soil of nutrients. There is some concern about using fresh wood chips or sawdust because as they decompose, they use available nitrogen. If used over a period of years without adding nitrogen to the soil, it could eventually result in a deficiency which could affect your plants. Not so with bark chips or shredded bark. Hope this clarifies things for you! |
