The Q&A Archives: No New Growth on Fern

Question: I have a small Rabbit's Foot Fern that looks healthy but it has not ever had any new growth. Any suggestions?

Answer: It may need repotting, or fertilizing. Ideally, there should be 1/2-1" of space between the plant and the pot, and ferns require a dose of fertilizer (a foliage plant food is best) once in the spring, and again in fall. They need bright, indirect light - an east or west window in summer, and indirect southern light in winter. Keep the soil moist but not soaking. In time, your fern should respond to this TLC with new growth.
