I have planted various Bougainvilleas around the house. They are in the direct Sun 75% of the day. Some are flowering more than others. Is there a trick to get these plants to flower? A certain kind of fertilizer? Or more or less watering? Please send your thoughts

Bougainvilleas bloom on new shoots which grow from old wood. Sunshine promotes new growth so the more sun, the more potential for blooms. Bougainvilleas are cyclic in their habits. They grow, then bloom, then rest, then begin to grow again. The average time between bloom cycles is about 6 weeks. Rich, well drained soil, deep watering and monthly feeding (light applications of general purpose 5-10-10) should keep your plants happy enough to bloom from spring through fall (and beyond if the weather remains warm).

Best wishes with your bougainvilleas!
