| Rhododendrons and azaleas should be pruned immediately after flowering. That's because they spend the summer months developing flower buds for the following year's floral display. If you prune them back now, you may be pruning off the flower buds, as well. I'd wait to prune them. Other landscape shrubs can be pruned after they've finished flowering; if they are not flowering shrubs, pruning in early spring is usually best. You can feed your rhodies and azaleas with a specially formulated Rhododendron and Azalea food. Use in amounts and with frequency as recommended on the fertilizer label.
