The Q&A Archives: Fall color

Question: As a new gardener, what are the best fall flowers to start now? I like growing from seeds, but I am not sure which ones that will do best and grow fastest. Or should I just try plants?

Answer: Melissa,

You can start alyssum, snapdragons, stock, dusty miller, sweet peas (for spring bloom), and violas now. If you are new to gardening I would suggest planting some sweet peas along a fence and perhaps starting some snapdragons. The purchase transplants of other flowers as some have very tiny seeds and are not so easy to grow.
