The Q&A Archives: rose of sharon bush and Irises and daylillies

Question: Hi....
Can I cut my daylilly FOLIAGE back to about 7 inches? It is all brown and not attractive.
When is the last day in ZONE 5 that I can plant Irises so they will be sure and root before winter?
What fertilizer should I give my Rose of Sharon bush?
Thanks so much, Dorian

Answer: You can cut the foliage back on your daylilies to remove the brown leaves. It won't hurt the plants. I'd get irises into the ground by the first week of September. Rose of Sharon should be fed in spring (not summer or fall). Use a general purpose garden fertilizer (5-10-10 is a good formula).

Enjoy your garden!
