WE HAVE JUST BUILT A HOUSE ON 31/2 ACRES AND WANT TO CLEAR OUT SOME OF THE WILD FERNS. THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO DIG OUT. WE WANT TO PLANT FLOWERS AND SHRUBS, BUT WE HAVE TO GET RID OF SOME OF THE FERNS. WHAT IS THE BESST WAY. WE WOULD RATHER NOT USE STRONG CHEMICALS IF WE DON'T HAVE TO

THANK YOU
JIM

If you are not able to dig them out, then you would need to use an herbicide such as glyphosate. Read and carefully follow all of the label directions for use. Keep in mind that ferns tend to grow in specialized conditions such as areas that are moist and shady, so your plantings will need to be suited to those growing conditions. Good luck with your project!
