The Q&A Archives: fertilizer

Question: Can I give normal/all-purpose plant food to any house plant? Is it better to give it what it is supposed to have?

Answer: Unless you're growing orchids or some other specialty plant, houseplants are generally happy with a 5-10-5 formulation. I'd stick with water soluable fertilizers manufactured specifically for houseplants. Otherwise, you will risk overdosing and burning the roots and foliage.
