| Hi, I just bought a pinneaple tree from you and I'm a little confused. The plant I bought already has a pinneapple growing in it, is this the ONLY pineapple that this tree will produce, or will it produce others (one at a time) after the pineapple has been removed? And how long does it generally take to grown another pineapple after I removed the current one (does it start to reproduce right away)? From what I understood in the questions above I can also grow other plants from mine by germinating the seeds behind the eyes, rooting the leaves off of a pineapple , or seperating and replanting the daughter plants at the base of my tree. | What you have is an ornamental pineapple plant. Pineapples can actually grow into bushes containing several fruits. I suspect if you keep the plant healthy it will bush out and produce more fruits. If you want another pineapple plant you can start it by using the crown, slips, shoots, and suckers, off of the mother plant. These are all names for the same thing found on different parts of the plant. The crown is the leafy part at the top of the fruit. You can twist this off the fruit, let it dry for a few days then plant it in moist soil. After a few weeks it should grow roots. The slips, shoots, and suckers all grow on different parts of the plant but are basically the same. They'll look like little crowns growing out of either the base of the fruit, the base of the leaves, or the base of the plant(soil). You can pluck them off and plant them in moist soil the same as a crown. Good luck with your plant! |
