Winter hardy shrubs in general require no special care for fall. Fluff and top up the mulch around them to a depth of about three inches. It should be spread in a flat layer over the root area, allow a gap of several inches between the mulch and the stem/trunk. Shrubs should not be pruned or fertilized in late summer or fall, this would encourage late season growth that will be too tender and thus prone to winter damage.
