The Q&A Archives: Do Ants kill plants or flowers?

Question: Do the little black ants affect the growth of a plant or flower? Do they feed off the roots? thanks

Answer: The little black ants you see in the garden do not harm plants. They climb up plant stems and stalks to feed on the nectar in the flowers and/or to feed on the sweet excrement from aphids (called honeydew). The ants do not feed on the roots of plants. Hope this answers your question.
