The Q&A Archives: Over fertilizing

Question: While fertilizing my lawn with a drop spreader late one night, I overlapped in a couple of areas. The areas are now brown and obvious. Will the grass come back? or should I reseed and try again?

Thank you!

Answer: I'd give the lawn an opportunity to regrow before raking it out and reseeding. I suspect that just the blades were burned, not the roots. It may take a week or two for it to green up again. If it doesn't green up by the end of August, you may want to rake the dead portions out and reseed. The reseeded area should be well established before winter sets in.

Best wishes with your lawn.
