| There are only a few reasons for non-flowering in azaleas. Lack of maturity (probably doesn't apply in this case); incorrect exposure to sun - some azaleas require a few hours of sunshine and some need all day sun; pruning at the wrong time (azaleas develop flower buds during the summer months for the following year's display); alkaline soil (most azaleas prefer slightly acidic soils); or too much nitrogen fertilizer (nitrogen promotes lush, green growth sometimes at the expense of flowering).
