The Q&A Archives: Transplanting daylillies

Question: I would like to transplant some daylilly plants to another location. Is this (August) a safe time to so?

Carole Morris

Answer: It is not the best time to move them now but you could do it if you are very careful to water them thoroughly the day before you dig them up and water deeply right after planting, then mulch and water as needed to keep the soil evenly moist (damp like a wrung out sponge, not dried out and not sopping wet) while they re-establish. Or, you could wait until September when it would be a little less stressful on them.
