The Q&A Archives: Hollyhocks

Question: Can I transplant hollyhocks? I would like to move some to another spot.

Answer: You can certainly moved newly germinated seedlings and first year plants. Mature plants however are difficult to move due to their large root systems. Also, many plants seem to act like biennials meaning they bloom in their second year and then die off. If you want to move some smaller, younger plants, early September would be a good time to do it.
