I got a standard hibiscus from HD for a gift last year, but I do not know the proper pruning technique for a standard -- can you help?

Linda,

They don't require a lot of pruning. Throughout the spring and summer season remove any shoots that come from the base of the plant and the lower trunk. Then shape the plant a little by snipping here and there to bring a long gangly shoot back into bounds to create the overall size and shape you desire for the plant. Avoid overpruning or pruning too often as it can delay or reduce flowering since blooms form on new growth.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
