| It is true - spring flowering bulbs should be planted in fall so they have a chance to experience a winter chill and to establish their root systems in the very early spring. This process will result in attractive flowers in early spring. Both daffodils and tulips will be available in your area in September or October. Purchase the biggest bulbs you can find (for the largest flowers) and plant them about 2 times as deep as they are wide, spacing 4-6" apart. Bulbs planted in masses look spectacular when in bloom so don't plant them in neat little rows or they will look like little soldiers in your garden. Plant in a sunny bed amended with organic matter to ensure good drainage. Best wishes with your garden! |
