Jim,

Trim the tree as needed to remove broken or rubbing branches but they don't require much pruning. With few exceptions citrus trees will develop and maintain their natural shape with little or no training or pruning. Water as needed to maintain moderate moisture. Spikes are okay for fertilizing but sprinkling a turf type fertilizer around the tree is fine too and less expensive. If you see bumpy fruit take some to your County Extension Office and see if they can identify the problem and if necessary prescribe an appropriate remedy.
