The Q&A Archives: Jade plant trouble

Question: I have jade plants and they are fairly large. They have always be shiny green aand health. Recently I have notice a white cotton looking bug or nest on the plant and the trunk . Do you know what it is or how to get ride of it. Please help.. Thank you. Linda

Answer: This sounds like the start of a mealy bug infestation. If you have the patience, the best thing to do is to dab each of the pests with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. This will kill them immdiately and after they've dried for a week or so you should be able to peel each one off your plant.
