We recently moved into a house and the front lawn isn't in the greatest shape. There are patches of grass and weeds throughout the lawn. What steps do we need to take to get our lawn in shape. I was told that we should kill the grass & weeds and start from the beginning, however, we're not too sure where the beginning is. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I would suggest you work with your local county extension to develop a lawn care plan. Sometimes a lawn can be renovated, other times it is better to start all over from scratch. This depends in how severe the weed to grass ratio is and what kind of weeds they are, and how much soil improvement is optimally needed to support a healthy lawn. In general, it is really important to provide good soil conditions at the start, it helps avoid problems later on. The following information should give you a good start. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.

I hope this helps!
