I just bought a Scarborough Lily (vallota speciosa) bulb from you, but your enclosed insert didn't give planting and care information for that variety. |
Vallota speciosa is native to South Africa. It will grow best in light shade, and likes to be watered regularly while it's growing and blooming. It's an excellent pot plant. Set the bulb with the tip just below the surface of the potting mix. Plants bloom best when the roots are slightly crowded, so choose a shallow container. Fertilize monthly during the summer with a diluted liquid fertilizer. In the winter months, after the strap-like leaves yellow and wilt, reduce watering and let the plant go semi-dormant. Don't let the soil dry out completely. When it begins to show signs of new growth in the spring, water regularly again and fertilize. Your Scarborough lily will bloom summer to early fall. |
