The Q&A Archives: brown turkey fig

Question: I bought 2,yesterday planted them about 2 feet from house wall, very sunny spot. My wife is worried they will send roots under the house and should be moved to a spot about 15 ft from the house.
I DO have a 12

Answer: Adrian,

Two feet is a little close and the branches will even be crowding the sides of the house a lot too. I would move them out to about 6 feet or more from the home. Figs in your climate will develop a large size and so the roots near the base of the tree get quite large but the tall branches also reach up to rub the eaves of the home. That is why a little more space is probably best. Even at 6 feet away you will need to prune the branches back some.
