| I have a 3 ft house palm in my house and I water it whenever I stick my finger into the pot and it feels dry. This happens probably twice a week since this is summertime. One of the branches has now yellowed, but the rest are green. Is the yellowing a cause of too much water?? The soil in the pot is pretty rocky. It is the same soil and pot that came from the store. It feels somewhat like volcanic rock. Please let me know. Thanks, Delroy |
| It's natural for the oldest fronds to yellow and die off. If the yellowing frond is near the bottom of the plant, it is perfectly normal and should be cut away from the plant when it is completely yellow. If the yellowing frond is the newer growth, it could indicate over or under-watering. Since your plant is in volcanic rocklike growing medium, it is a plant that requires extremely fast drainage. As long as you water on a regular basis, and don't keep the media soggy wet, it should be just fine. Best wishes with your palm! |
