Our backyard slops up and my question is..
Would it be a good idea to build a raised garden with rock, around the back of our home, as the rain runs down the slope to the home? We do not have a basement. If this is not a good idea, can you suggest something else?
Thank you in advance.

Jeanne,

I'm not sure what your purpose in building the raised bed is. If it is to improve drainage that is a good idea. However if the bed is higher than the base of the home you should take extra care to not piles soil against the home or against brick around the base of the home. Essentially this would mean having a rock front to the bed and a rock back to the bed contain the soil and between. It may also be hopeful to install a drainage way in front of the bed to direct water off to the side and away from the planting area. This could be a dry creek with rock, or an underground French drain.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
