3-1/2 months ago we purchased and planted a 5 gallon Clematis, The President. We worked mulch into the soil, added liquid fertilizer (Vf-11) and aadded mulch after the plant was in the ground amd placed flat rocks around the plant. The plant bloomed beautifully for about 5 weeks but now there are no buds, very few leaves and they are light green. What did we do wrong and can the problem be fixed? Thank you. James Chunn |
It's really difficult to diagnose a plant problem without seeing the plant. It sounds as though your clematis was planted properly and if you've been watering regularly, it should thrive. Foliage symptoms can sometimes be traced to soil pH or even poor drainage due to over-watering. I would feed it lightly (use a half-strength dilution of water soluable fertilizer such as Peter's or Miracle Gro) and water it deeply once or twice a week. It should perk up in a few weeks. |
