| I have an established tree that is only two feet away from my drive way. The roots of the tree are causing the brick work adjacent to my drive and the concrete to lift. In addition, all of the soil under the tree is lifting so much that there is a hill surrounding the tree (apparently, there is not significant dirt/soil in my yard and beneath the dirt is limestone and rocks). My six kids have worn all the grass down around the side of the tree that faces the drive way. So now when it rains there is a hilly muddy area next to the drive way. Would some type of planter surrounding the tree help? |
| Happy, There is not a good solution to your situation. Basically you will either have to remove the tree or reset the bricks at a higher level or further away from the tree. Tree roots grow under the surface and grow a larger with time lifting the soil or whatever else is on the ground surface. Putting a planting bed and around the tree is fine but I would add a lot of soils to the surface around the base. Space If you cut the large root of the tree that is lifting the brick that would prevent further damage that could make the tree less safe by weakening its anchorage on that side.
