The Q&A Archives: Trees

Question: Hi: Just wanted to know what are the best trees to plant that are shady and require little sun?

Regina Stone

Answer: There are only a few trees that will be happy in shady sites. Among them are American hornbeam (Carpinus caroliniana), Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis), and Pagoda dogwood (Cornus alternifolia). If you're looking for an evergreen, Canadian Hemlock would work. Best wishes with your landscape!
