My seedlings look scrawny. I start them indoors under grow lights. How much fertilizer should I be using?

Seedlings need 14-16 hours of artificial light each day. If your seedlings are spindly, they may not be getting enough light. Place them about 6 inches below the source of artificial light and raise the lights as the plants grow. You can begin fertilizing the plants after they have grown their first set of true leaves. Use a diluted solution of liquid fertilizer (about half-strength) every two weeks while your plants are indoors. Fish emulsion or Miracle-Gro will do just fine.
