outdoor decorative plants - Knowledgebase Question

I don't know anything about plants. I want to know what decorative outdoor plants that I can plant and that will regrow after the bad seasons have passed. I like plants that do not spread too fast and are of medium height.

Perennial flowers live for three years or longer. Some you might try in a sunny location would include Siberian iris, (Iris sibirica), yarrow (Achillea), daylilies (Hemerocallis), sedum, black eyed Susan (Rudbeckia fulgida), and asters. These are mid sized plants in general, however check the specific variety for expected mature size as there can be some variations between cultivars.
