The Q&A Archives: Wineberry

Question: Hi, I am searching for (Japanese) Wineberry plants. I have 2 of them on my farm, but would like to grow more of this rare berry. I know that they are part of the Raspeberry family, but I have not seen them for sale in catalogs or nurseries. They were planted here before the turn of the century. They make wonderful jelly and are awesome just picked.

Answer: Your Wineberry is commonly called Thimbleberry (Rubus parviflorus), and is related to the raspberry. Rooted canes are available through Northwoods Nursery, Inc., 391 Butts Rd., Morton, WA 98356 Phone them at: (360) 496-6400
